About Me

I am currently the Teen Services Coordinator for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library in Charlotte, NC. In this position I oversee teen services at twenty branch libraries and manage the Loft, a teen-only library located within ImaginOn, a collaborative venture of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and the Children’s Theater of Charlotte. At ImaginOn, cutting-edge library services, innovative educational programs, and new generation technology meet award-winning professional theater in an attempt to bring stories to life through extraordinary experiences that challenge, inspire and excite young minds.

In addition to my job as the Teen Services Coordinator, I am also a freelance writer and national speaker, certified by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) as a Serving the Underserved (SUS) Trainer. I recently finished up a three year term on the YALSA Board of Directors and am the “Getting Graphic” Columnist for Library Media Connection. My books include Getting Graphic! Comics for Kids, Getting Graphic! Using Graphic Novels to Promote Literacy with Preteens and Teens and both the 3rd and 4th editions of Connecting Young Adults and Libraries.

I am currently working full time for CMLibrary, writing my column, acting as Editorial Director of Neal-Schuman’s “Teens @ the Library” Series, creating discussion guides, developing online courses for state libraries, and traveling around the country conducting workshops about graphic novels for children and teens and young adult library services.
